Nicolas Demartines, MD, FRCS, FACS, Hon FCCS is Professor of Surgery and was Chair of the Department Surgery at the University Hospital CHUV in Lausanne Switzerland. From January 1st 2023, he was nominated general manager of the hospital (CEO).. He is member of both the French Academy of Surgery and the French Academy of medicine and honorary Fellow of the ASGBI, the Chinese College of Surgeons, the French Association of Surgery and the Swiss Society of Visceral Surgery. His University Hospital in Lausanne was ranked 9th best Hospital in the World by the Journal Newsweek in 2021 and 11th 2022.
His clinical and surgical activity was focused on oncologic surgery, mainly hepato-pancreatico-biliary and strategic innovations. Enhanced Recovery After Surgery programs (ERAS) are now well established, and his Department is recognized as one of the international leader for ERAS. Prof Demartines was founding member of the ERAS. Nicolas Demartines is focused on post grade education, for example as member of the Faculty at The European Institute of Telesurgery IRCAD-EITS in Strasbourg France, in Taiwan and soon in the US. He is Vice Chair of the council of the British Journal of Surgery. He serves as expert at the French National Institute for Cancer (INCA). He has over 500 publications in peer-reviewed journals and has lectured worldwide.
