SOTA07 - The RAPID Procedure: A Game Changer or Hype
Dr. Deniz Balci had his Medical Degree and completed general surgery residency at Department of General Surgery and Organ Transplantation in Ankara University School of Medicine in Turkey. After his clinical fellowship at Florence Nightingale Hospital, Organ Transplantation Unit in İstanbul, he returned back to Ankara University School of Medicine as a junior faculty. He was a clinical research fellow at Department of Transplantation Mayo Clinic Florida, USA and at Recanati Miller Transplant Institute at Mount Sinai School of Medicine in New York followed by a clinical fellowship at Asan Medical Center, Liver Transplant and HPB Surgery Department at Seoul, South Korea.
He was appointed as Associate Professor of Surgery and the Chief of Liver Transplantation at Ankara University School of Medicine, Department of General Surgery and Organ Transplantation in 2012. He was appointed as Professor of Surgery in 2018 in the same school.
In 2022, He moved to Istanbul to Bahcesehir University School of Medicine as chief of department of surgery and transplantation.
His main area of interest is Advanced Hepatobiliary Surgery using parenchymal augmentation techniques in particular with ALPPS procedure, Klatskin tumor surgeries and advanced techniques in Living Donor Liver Transplantation such as Rapid Procedure and heterotopic partial liver transplantation for babies and small infant. He and his team developed Livervision software, a dedicated software for 3D liver imaging and surgical planning for complex liver surgery and LDLT.
He is currently at the Bahcesehir University School of Medicine as the chief of Department of General Surgery and Organ Transplantation in Istanbul.
He works at multiple international societies; as a member of executive council and the Chair of the Scientific Committee of the International Society of Liver Surgeons, as a steering committee member of the Advanced Hepatobiliary Surgery Special interest group at International Society of Liver Transplantation and executive council member of international Living Donor Liver Transplantation Group.
